Ford Motor Company

Welcome to my website all about Ford history and their accomplishment with in the industry as well as their success in the racing world! Ford has long been my favourite manufacturer of cars, ever since I fell in love with my non biological uncle’s second hand Ford Capri which is still one of my favourite ever cars. Ford is an American company whose cars are sold nationally. The company was founded by Henry Ford and is based out of Dearborn, Michigan. The firm is now the world’s third largest auto manufacturer.

The company incorporated on June 16, 1903 and is now comprised of global brands such as Lincoln and Mercury of the United States, Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Land Rover of Great Britain, Volvo of Sweden, and the firm also holds one-third of the controlling interest in Mazda.

In 1999, Ford was among the ten largest corporations in terms of revenue. Despite the fact that the company’s market share has consistently fallen over the past ten years it still managed to pull in $177.4 dollars in 2005, posted a net income of $5.8billion dollars in 2006, and maintains approximately 327,531 employees.

Ford has been credited with several key innovations, such as developing large scale car manufacturing, managing an industrial workforce, and maintaining an elaborate high yield assembly line. These concepts were widely recognized and Ford’s efficiently run factories skilled and highly paid workforce, and low vehicle prices helped to shape car manufacturing and by 1914 had been coined ‘Fordism’.

Ford had decided to sell globally and had taken their cars outside of the U.S. market, but the cars didn’t appeal to the European market the same way they had in the United States and Ford knew that the cars had to be designed specifically to appeal to European tastes. The Ford Focus has been one of the only models that have appealed to both American and European buyers. The Ford Company has learned much about the European market and has since enjoyed a long history in the United Kingdom.Popular models within the past fifteen years include the Fiesta, Focus, Focus C Max, Fusion, Galaxy, Ka, Mondeo, Street Ka and S-Max.

The Ford Focus is a compact, family-style car that was first launched in Europe in 1988. The Focus replaced the outdated escort and was in production from 1998 to 2004. An updated model was launched in 2005 and is still being produced. The Focus Boasts excellent handling and a good ride. The Focus also delivers good levels of passenger comfort and a responsive driving experience. The newest version has improved styling and handling and comes in seven trim levels. The Focus ST comes in both three and five door versions, the Coupe’-Cabriolet with a two piece metal folding roof and there is the Ford Focus 4×4, a five-seater that is expected to debut in March of 2007 and will be released by the end of 2007.

The Ford Fiesta is a mid-class supermini and one of the company’s most successful cars. The car was originally introduced in 1976 and has continually received updates and enhancements through the years keeping it fresh and competitive. The Mark III was produced from 1989-1997 and received a new engine and safety features and was replaced in 1997 by the Ford Ka. In 1995 the Fiesta received major styling enhancements, a new suspension system and was now one of the best handling cars in its class. This was the Mark IV model. This model’s production stopped in 1999, and gave way to the Mark V. The Mark V Fiesta received a new face in 1999 and better levels of trim to keep the car fresh and competitive. This model was in production from 1999 to 2002. In 2002 the Mark VI was revealed. The car was completely new and bore little or no resemblance to its predecessors. The car was being offered with a new line of engines including diesel options, and could be bought in ST form reaching 130 mph. The Mark VII model was released in 2005 and is currently still in production. The Fiesta VII model delivers all of the same popular features as the VI but boasts a new facelift keeping the car stylish and attractive. The Fiesta Mark III is likely to be released in 2007 or 2008.

The Ford Focus C Max is a compact MPV that uses the company’s C-1 platform. I can only imagine it is similar to my old second hand Ford B-MAX that was a pleasure to drive.  The car provides seating for five and a good deal of cargo space. Rear seats fold flat and increase cargo space even further. The car has been in production since 2003 to the present.

The Ford Fusion is an estate style car that was derived from the Ford Fiesta supermini. It has a taller body height and provides a roomier interior for taller passengers. The car boasts off-road suspension and larger wheels.

The Ford Galaxy is a five-door wagon. The first generation Galaxy was comprised mainly of Volkswagen mechanicals including all of the engines on offer but one, and all of the transmissions. The Galaxy has received a few cosmetic enhancements to keep it fresh and the first generation was in production from 1995 to 2005. The second generation began production in 2006 and continues to the present. The new Galaxy is larger and is completely Ford built. The Volkswagen mechanicals have been removed and it still sports the company’s fold-flat system for the rear seats.

The Ford Ka is a city car that boasts nimble handling, sporty suspension and steering while providing plenty of grip. The Ka has been the best selling car in its class for some time in the UK. The car’s production first began in 1996 and continues to present.

The Ford Mondeo is a large family car. The Mark I and Mark II versions were introduced in 2003. The Mondeo replaced the Ford Sierra and unlike the Sierra, the Mondeo is front-wheel drive. The Mondeo was a completely new design with little if anything in common with the Sierra. Production continued until 2000 when the Mark III was introduced. The Mondeo Mark III was much larger but was still based largely on the Mark I. The new version offered more legroom and a diesel engine option. The Mark III’s production lasted from 2000 to 2007. The Mark IV is scheduled to be introduced in 2007.

The Ford Street Ka is a reliable convertible version of the Ka. It is known for its cute exterior design and sports a 1.6-litre, 8 valve, Duratec engine. The Street Ka produces 95hp. The car was produced from 2003 to 2006.

The Ford S-Max is a large MPV with a sportier style. The S-Max also boasts Ford’s Fold-Flat Sytsem where the rear seats fold completely flat, providing better cargo space. The car started production in 2006 and continues to the present.

Ford is well-known for producing reliable and practical cars. The company has recently decided to go with one tagline regardless of global region, and the company’s new tagline seems to say it all plain and simple, ‘Feel the Difference’.
